Hong Kong Island is the most thriving place of the whole of Hong Kong and is also
the seat of the Hong Kong Government bodies. On both sides of the streets, there
are flourishing commercial towers and shopping centers, offices of the world famous
financial bodies, shipping institutions and the headquarters of trade companies,
and consulate of various countries and regions. The topography in the southern
part of the Hong Kong Island is relatively low. The renowned Deep Water Bay and
Repulse Bay are all located here, which are Hong Kong's mainly tourist area and
residential quarters of the first class. Kowloon is one of the centers of industrial
and commercial activities. The Victoria Harbour, one of the three natural deep
water harbours of the world is situated between the Kowloon Peninsula and the
Hong Kong Island. By utilizing the excellent advantages, Hong Kong has gradually
developed into one of the world shipping centers. In the commercial towers
and shopping centers, you will find exquisite merchandise, a feast for the eyes.
It looks as if international fairs of merchandise from various countries throughout
the world were held here everyday. Hong Kong's communications are highly
developed, subway and ground railway, highway, undersea tunnels, motorway interchange,
viaduct, ferry, airport and what not radiating in all directions, like a piece
of huge network knitting the whole city together. Hong Kong is a city for
tourism, which is known as a fine place to visit for 'food, shopping, recreation
and entertainment'. Every year there are several million tourists come to Hong
Kong for visits and thousands of huge ships coming in and out of Hong Kong harbours
and everyday there are hundreds of airplanes taking off and landing in Hong Kong

Park | The
Ocean Park is the amusement and entertainment center of the broadest scale in
the whole south-east Asia. There are motor-driven recreation games stimulating
one's feeling, super-momentary feeling cinema house and the exploration of maze
in ancient countries etc. You may take the cable car across the hill top to
find the world largest scale Marine Park of coral reef aquarium where there are
more than 4000 kinds of tropical fishes, blazing with colours. If the time allows,
you may see divers feeding and playing with sharks in the shark aquarium. At the
same time, you can enjoy the excellent performances by ocean animals in the ocean
theater and play wonderful and exciting motor-driven recreation games, such as
frenzied crossing hill car, swing-to-sky pendular boat and somersaulting flying
eagle. In the ocean sky-scraper tower which is the tallest in whole Asia, there
is revolving cabin to look down at the beautiful scenery of the ocean area and
islands. You may take the out door mountain-climbing escalator, which is the second
longest in the world, down to Middle Kingdom. It is the village in the style of
ancients which is a tourist center. Inside the village, all huts, bazar, workshop,
temple and Buddhist pagoda are all built moddelling the ancients, with five thousand
year old Chinese history reappeared at present. Inside the village, there are
also demonstration making of different kinds of traditional arts and crafts and
street performances. The Panda Park which was inaugurated in last May, is the
new item of the Ocean Park which occupies about 2000 square meters with the cost
of 80 million H. K. dollars. It has been built in accordance with the natural
environment of panda's living conditions, with the temperature at 20C all weather
and moisture at 50-60%. Inside the park, there is viewing veranda for visitors
to see the living activities of two national treasures "An An" and "Jia
Jia".

In the
early period of colonial rule the Victoria Peak was open to the people of upper
strata of society only. Tai Ping Shan, 554 meters above sea level, is the summit
of Hong Kong island and the best place of looking down at the scenery of the Victoria
Harbour. Taking mountain climbing cable car, which has a hundred year old
history, to reach the Victoria Peak, you can proceed to the Peak Tower, which
was rebuilt after toppling sown the Lao Qing Pavillion. This is a center of combining
catering and recreation. Its bowl shaped design is modern and unique, inside which
there are reviewing stand, dining hall, wonder hall and motor-driven recreation
games. Among them, the most special is the wonder hall which is called "Believe
it or not". It is the chain museum unique in the world, which was constructed
by Robert L. Ripley in 1930. Inside the hall there exhibited the adventurous events
experienced by Ripley, primitive forest, beauty taking sun bath, frenzied car,
turning tunnel, shark aquarium, ultimate cruel torture, marvelous spectacles of
human race and animals, complete works of tongue twister and mass media fun station
etc. If you have time, you may come to have a taste of Mr. Robert's experience
and "Believe it or not". Inside the peak square, there are fine arts
shop, first class restaurant and three dimensional simulated flight of airship.
If you have enough time, you may go around the Harlech Road and the Lugard
Road on both sides of the Peak, which is the best spot to look down at both shores
of Victoria Harbour, Kowloon Peninsula and even the Pok Fu Lam Reservoir and Island
District on the southern part of Hong Kong. | | |
