Henan, also known as Yu for short, is located on the hin terland of the Central Plain, a long the middle and lower reaches of the Huanghe (Yellow) River in China. The majority of the province is to the south of Huanghe, hence its name. Zhengzhou is the capital. Henan has 13 cities such as Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Anyang, and Kaifeng, two regions including Zhoukou and Zhumadian, 25 county-level cities, and 91 counties, with an area of 160, 000 square kilometers and a population of 90.27 million. Henan is surrounded by mountains in southwest and northwest. It has boundless plain in the east. The ancient Huanghe River runs eastward in northern Henan.

Henan has rich tourist resources with beautiful landscape and many places of interest, such as Mt. Agong at the juncture of Henan and Hubei, Mt. Songshan - one of the five famous mountains in China between Zhengzhou and Luoyang; Mount Yuntai in Xiuwu,Mt.Shiren Natural Scenic Area in Lushan, the Waterfall Cave in Tongbai and Qixian, the Hundred Springs in Huixian, Nanwan Lake in Xinyang, and the Huanghe Scenic Area in Sanmenxia and Kaifeng, to the only a few.

Henan is located at the juncture of the Jing-Guang and Long-Hai railways and national highways. Planes and trains shuttle between Zhengzhou and major cities, such as Beijing, Shenyang, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xi'an, and the rest parts of Henan.

Yellow River Tour

A cruise on the Yellow River, which flows from west to east across Henan Province for 700km, brings the visitor to four ancient cultural cities with a new look-Sanmenxia, Luoyang, Zhengzhou and Kaifeng-and the Xiaolangdi Water Conservancy Project. The visitor may also sail down the river aboard old goatskin rafts or hovercrafts in Zhengzhou, join local residents in harnessing the river and planting trees, observe local habits and customs, or go visiting Xiaolangdi Water Conservancy Hub under large-scale construction.

Martial Arts Tour
A studio east of Shaolin Temple offers martial arts performances and training courses to groups and individuals from at home and abroad. Chengjia Gully in Wenxian County, 60 km north of Zhengzhou, was the cradle of the Chen school of Taijie boxing; martial arts training classes are held on a regular basis in a studio in the county seat, which is also the site of an annual international Taijie competition in September.
Longmen Grottoes
The Longmen Grottoes are located along the banks of the Yishui River 13 kilometers south of Luoyang proper. Carved in ancient China and stretching some 1 kilometer, it is one of the three most famous grottoes in China, together with the Dunhuang Grottoes in Gansu Province, and the Yungang Grottoes in Shanxi Province, and a major national scenic spot.

The work began during the reign of Emperor Thihe of the Northern Wei period (535-556) and lasted for 400 years. There are 1,952 grottoes, 750 niches, 40 pagodas, and more than 100, 000 Buddhist statues, big or small. The most well-known caves are Guyang, Binyang, Yaofang, and Wanfo (Ten-Thousand-Buddha). The largest Buddhist statue, 17 meters high, is found in Fengxian Temple.

Luoyang, an Ancient Capital of Peonies

Luoyang, 120 kilometers west of Zhengzhou, served as capital for 12 dynasties, starting in the 21st century B. C. , during a period of 1,200 years. Luoyang has long been known as the City of Peonies. There are such tourist attractions as Longmen Grottoes, the White Horse Umple, the Forest of Guan Yu, the Museum of Ancient Tombs, and the Hometown of Xuan Zhuang.

Daxiangguo Temple

Located in Kaiteng proper, Daxrangguo Temple was first built in 555, the sixth year during Emperor Tianbao's reign of the Northern Qi period (550-577), but was destroyed in the late Ming Dynasty. After reconstruction, it has such structures as the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, Tripitaka Pavilion, and a statue of Goddess of Mercy with 1,000 hands and 1,000 eyes. On the eastern site of the main gate there is a 5-ton bell.

Shaolin Temple
Lying at the northern foot of Shaoshi, Shaolin Temple was built in 495, the 19th year during the reign of Emperor Taihe of the North Wei period. It is the birthplace of the Zen Buddhism in China. The temple is famous worldwide for Shaolin Kongfu, or Chineses martial arts. In the Thousand-Buddha Hall, the famous mural painting of 500 arhats can be found in a 300-square-meter area.
