Liaoning briefing

Liaoning Province is located in the southern part of northeast China, with the Yellow and Bohai Seas in the south, Hebei Province in the southwest, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the northwest, Jilin Province in the northeast, and Korea m the southeast.

Liaoning's northeastern and western parts are rolling hills and forests. Its central part is the boundless Liaohe Plain. Its southern part is the Liaodong Peninsula. Its western part is the Liaoxi Corridor along the beach of the Bohai Sea. Dalian, Dandong, Yingkou, Jinzhou, Huludao, and Xingcheng are beautiful coastal cities, with seven national-level, nine provincial-level and seven municipal-level scenic Areas.

Liaoning is abundant with rich resources of hot springs, such as Tanggangzi in Anshan, Wulongbei in Dandong, Xingcheng in Huludao, Wenquansi in Benxi, and Tanghe in Liaoyang.

Shenyang Palace Museum

The Palace Museum in Shenyang is one of the two imperial palace building complexes, built in 1625, the 10th year during the reign of Emperor Tianming of the Later Jin period. It covers an area of 60, 000 square meters with 300 bays and rooms in over 20 courtyards in three parts: the east, the middle, and the west. The main structures in the eastern part are the Dazheng Hall and the Ten-King Pavilion; The buildings on the axis of the middle part include the Chongzheng Hall, the Phoenix Tower, and the Qingning Palace; In the eastern part are the Opera Theater, and the Wen-shuo Tower.

Qianshan Mountain
A famous mountain 18km to the southeast of Anshan in northeast China, the 708. 3-metre-high Qianshan Mountain is densely wooded, and abounds in flora and fauna. Among its scenic spots is a new discovery-a nature ought statue of the Buddha, which stands meters tall. The place has since become the venue of Qianshan Great uddha estival, which takes place in June every year.
Zhaoling & Fuling Mausoleums

The Zhaoling, also known as Northern Mausoleum as it is in the northern suburbs of Shenyang, was the tomb of the second Qing emperor, Huang Taji, and his consorts. Buried under the Fuling of Eastern Mausoleum were the remains of Nurhachi and his wife, Empress Xiaoci.

Dalian Beach

The beach, lying in southern Dalian, is a celebrated summering place in north China and a national scenic resort. Major scenic spots: Wooden-Club Isle, Hutan (Tiger's Beach) Amusement Park, Beida (Grand North) Bridge, Yanwo (Swallow Nestle) Peak, Fojiazhuang Park, Forest Zoo, Xinghai (Star Sea) Bay, Xinghai Park, Shenya Marine World, and Heishi (Black Rock) Reefs. A seaside highway runs by all these attractions.

Hulu Island

The Jiumenkou Pass is located in Suizhong County, 15 kilometers south of Shanhai Pass. Built in 1381, the 14th year of Emperor Hongwu's reign of the Ming Dynasty, it is the first gateway to eastern Beijing. Over the Jiujiang River nearby, there is a 7, 000-square-meter stone bridge spanning the river. Under the bridge there are nine water gates, hence its name. At each end of the stone bridge there is a wall in the shape of the bridgehead. The Jiumenkou Pass was a place of strategic importance in the past dynasties.

The Yalu River

In Chinese, Ya means duck, and Lu means green. The river derived its name from its color and its shape resembling to the head of a duck. Descending from the southern foot of Mt. Changbai in Jilin Province, it runs through Changbai, Ji'an, Kuandian, and Dandong, with a length of 795 kms, and finally empties itself into the Yellow Sea. It is the boundary river between China and Korea. The river passes through 300 kms of Dandong City, with vast water and beautiful scenery along the banks. There are two iron bridges over the river, one was erected in 1909 but was destroyed during the Korean War, the other was erected in 1940.
